Drifting on a wheel is one of the fastest ways to learn car control—but it’s also one of the easiest ways to make your force feedback feel wrong. If your wheel is too damped, you lose self-steer. If your rotation and steering ratio don’t match, the car feels “snappy” or lazy. And if your handbrake is mounted awkwardly, you’ll never build consistent inputs.

This guide focuses on drifting in Assetto Corsa with MOZA hardware, plus a cockpit layout that supports real drift technique.

Drift feel in one sentence

Your goal is a wheel that self-steers quickly and settles predictably—without oscillating wildly on straights.

Start with cockpit layout (seriously)

In drifting, you move your hands quickly and often. That means:

  • Wheel height should allow fast transitions without shrugging your shoulders.
  • Handbrake should be close enough to grab without leaning.
  • Shifter should sit where your hand naturally drops.

Assetto Corsa in-game settings for drifting (baseline)

Assetto Corsa has fewer “mystery” FFB settings than some sims, but the basics matter:

  • Gain: start conservative and increase only if you’re not clipping.
  • Filter: low values preserve detail; higher values smooth harshness.
  • Minimum force: only useful on non-direct-drive wheels (usually leave low/zero on MOZA DD).

Your first goal is “no clipping, clean transitions.” Once you have that, you can add texture.

Handbrake control: settings + ergonomics

Drift handbrake use is about precision, not maximum pull. You want the lever in a natural position and a clean analog axis in-game.
