Motion ready sim rigs: TR160 planning checklist and SIMGASM Pro build tips

Motion ready sim rigs: TR160 planning checklist and SIMGASM Pro build tips

Trak Racer TR160 builds often show up in motion rig discussions because the 160-profile class is a natural base for actuators. But “motion ready” is not just about strength. It’s about planning your monitors, cables, safety, and accessories so the rig stays reliable.

This guide is a practical motion checklist that works for TR160-class rigs and for the SIMGASM Pro racing simulator.

Motion-ready checklist

1) Decide what moves: cockpit only, or cockpit plus monitors?

Most motion users keep monitors static because it preserves visual clarity and reduces strain on cables. That is why a freestanding stand is the safe default.

For SIMGASM builds, the Apex freestanding triple monitor stand is the easy option when you want stable screens with a moving cockpit.

2) Build cable routing that tolerates movement

  • Create service loops for USB, power, HDMI/DP
  • Use strain relief so connectors don’t carry load
  • Keep power and signal separate when possible

SIMGASM Sport and Pro rigs include internal routing and multiple pass-through points, which makes clean motion cable routing much easier.

3) Choose a seat that supports your body under movement

Motion rigs amplify posture issues. A seat that fits you becomes more important, not less. For GT-style builds, start with the Atlas GT seat. For more reclined builds, use the Atlas Formula seat. If you prefer comfort and easier entry, use the Core Recline seat.

4) Plan your controls so they don’t hit you mid-motion

Button boxes, Stream Decks, and keyboards should be close enough to reach without leaning. Use mounts that can move and lock in place. The universal peripheral deck is a clean way to add control surfaces without drilling.

5) Make safety boring

Motion rigs need a predictable power layout and an emergency stop you can reach instantly. Keep your wiring tidy and your switches obvious.

TR160 vs SIMGASM Pro: what to compare before you buy

Motion factor TR160 class SIMGASM Pro
Profile class 160-profile aluminium structure 160×40 flagship platform designed for high loads
Adjustment headroom Large Large, with extra adjustability and thick steel plates for flex-free mounting
Build cleanliness Depends on cable strategy Internal routing and pass-through design for clean, serviceable builds

The key idea: a motion rig is a system. If you build it clean and stable, you’ll spend your time driving — not fixing USB dropouts and alignment problems.

Recommended SIMGASM gear: Pro racing simulator, Apex freestanding triple monitor stand, Atlas GT seat, universal peripheral deck, and shifter and handbrake mount.

Extra tip: motion plus tactile is where rigs get noisy

Motion adds movement. Tactile adds vibration. Together they can create rattles if anything is loose. The fix is not “turn it down” — it’s:

  • Re-torque key joints regularly
  • Use threadlocker where bolts repeatedly loosen
  • Mount shakers to solid plates, not thin brackets
  • Keep cables from tapping against profiles

If you treat motion as a long-term project, choosing a clean, adjustable rig platform from the start is the easiest way to keep it reliable.
