Almost any aluminium profile rig can look clean on day one. The hard part is keeping it clean after you add:
- a different wheelbase ecosystem,
- new pedals or a pedal control box,
- a button box or dashboard display,
- a bass shaker amplifier, or
- a dedicated USB hub.

The two cable rules that prevent 80% of mess
- Separate power and data: keep mains power and high-current cables away from USB and signal cables where possible.
- Build service loops: every cable needs a little slack at moving points (wheel deck tilt, pedal adjustment, seat slider). Tight cables break and pull connectors loose.
Step 1: Decide where your “electronics zone” lives
Pick one place on the rig that will hold your power distribution and USB hub(s). Good locations are:
- behind the monitors (if integrated),
- under the pedal deck, or
- on a side mounting arm.
The goal is to avoid having power bricks scattered across the cockpit.
Step 2: Map your cables by type
Group cables into three categories:
- High power: mains power, large DC bricks, amplifier feeds.
- Medium power: wheelbase power, monitor power, some haptic power.
- Data: USB, display cables, audio signal.
Run data and power on different sides of the cockpit when possible. Even if you can’t fully separate them, this mindset keeps the layout sane.
Step 3: Use the rig structure as a routing guide
Profile rigs are perfect for cable management because the structure is predictable. Pick “trunk routes” that follow the frame edges, then branch off to devices.

A simple method:
- Mount the cable to the rig with a tie point before the connector.
- Leave a small service loop from that tie point to the device.
- Make sure the loop doesn’t rub on sharp edges or moving joints.
Step 5: USB hubs, powered hubs, and “one cable to the PC”
Many rigs become unreliable because they have too many USB cables going to the PC. A good solution is a powered USB hub mounted on the rig, with one high-quality USB cable running to the computer.
Tips that prevent headaches:
- Use a powered hub for wheels, dashboards, and multiple peripherals.
- Keep the hub close to your devices to reduce long, messy runs.
- Label cables (even a small tag) so future you knows what is what.
Step 6: Plan for the “next upgrade” on purpose
Good cable management is future-proofing. Leave room for:
- an extra USB device,
- a second monitor cable route,
- a tactile amplifier feed, or
- a different wheelbase power brick.
