Asetek Initium DD10: 10 Nm Direct Drive With a 14 Nm Upgrade Path

Asetek Initium DD10: 10 Nm Direct Drive With a 14 Nm Upgrade Path

The Asetek Initium DD10 brings 10 Nm of direct drive force feedback and an upgrade path to 14 Nm without replacing the wheelbase. Released on 27 October 2026, it gives PC racers another option around the €500 mark, with an important extra for future console use: Xbox readiness, provided you pair it with a compatible Asetek Racing Xbox steering wheel.

For anyone moving on from a belt or gear driven wheel, the appeal is straightforward. You can start with 10 Nm, keep your wheel options open and add more torque later. But the complete setup matters just as much as the motor: budget for a steering wheel, pedals, the correct mounting hardware and a cockpit that keeps everything in position.

What does the Asetek DD10 cost?

The European headline price is €499 including 19% VAT, based on Asetek's listed €419.33 excluding VAT. The final tax-inclusive price depends on your country. In the United States, the listed price is $499 before sales tax. These are wheelbase prices, so compare the cost of a complete setup before choosing between brands or bundles.

10 Nm now, 14 Nm when you want more

The DD10 uses Asetek's GripSense force feedback system. Its 10 Nm output gives you steering resistance and feedback about the car's grip, while the separately sold Wheelbase Boost Kit increases the maximum output to 14 Nm by changing the power supply.

That is a useful route for a setup you intend to keep. You can learn the base at a comfortable force level, then add more available torque later without rebuilding around a different wheelbase. More torque is not automatically a better setting for every driver: clear feedback, sensible game settings and a stable driving position remain essential. Our guide to direct drive torque in Nm explains how to think about that choice.

Feature Asetek Initium DD10
Drive system Direct drive with GripSense force feedback
Standard torque 10 Nm
Upgrade Up to 14 Nm with the separately sold Boost Kit
Steering wheel connection Asetek quick release with integrated USB passthrough
Peripheral connections Five rear ports for Asetek peripherals
Platform PC; Xbox requires an Asetek Racing Xbox-compatible steering wheel

More choice in steering wheels

The quick release supports Asetek Racing wheels and third-party USB options. For a third-party wheel, Asetek specifies its Universal Quick Release Adapter and USB requirements of USB 2.0, 1.5 A and 5 V. That gives PC racers flexibility, but it is worth checking the exact rim and adapter combination before ordering.

USB passthrough should not be confused with universal console compatibility. A steering wheel advertised for another platform does not automatically make the DD10 work on that console.

Xbox-ready comes with a condition

An Xbox-compatible Asetek Racing steering wheel is required for Xbox use. Buying the base with a PC-only wheel does not give you a complete Xbox setup. Check the availability of the required wheel before placing a console-focused order.

PC racers can build around a supported Asetek wheel or a compatible third-party USB wheel. Asetek also lists its upcoming GT Nova steering wheel for March 2027. That release date alone should not be treated as confirmation of Xbox compatibility.

Five rear ports and a five-year warranty

The rear connections let the DD10 act as a hub for Asetek peripherals, including the brand's shifter and handbrake. Fewer separate connections can make cable routing around the cockpit easier.

Asetek advertises a five-year manufacturer's warranty under its warranty policy effective from 16 October 2026. The warranty starts on the purchase date and remains subject to the manufacturer's terms.

How does it compare with the MOZA R5 and R9?

The DD10 enters a busy part of the direct drive market. The MOZA R5 offers 5.5 Nm and the R9 offers 9 Nm. At 10 Nm as standard, the DD10 has more stated maximum torque than either, with further headroom through its optional 14 Nm upgrade.

Torque is only one part of the comparison. Look at the steering wheel you want, your platform, software, adapters and the price of the full package. An R5 bundle and a DD10 wheelbase on its own are different purchases. The DD10's USB wheel support and upgrade route deserve attention, but they do not make it the automatic winner for every racer.

Build the cockpit around the complete setup

A direct drive base needs a secure mount and a repeatable seating position. Before choosing a frame, check the DD10's underside mounting pattern, the included bottom mount conversion plate and the available adjustment on the cockpit. A mount described as suitable for Asetek still needs to support this specific model.

The SIMGASM Hobby cockpit provides a compact 40 × 40 mm aluminium-profile starting point. The SIMGASM Club cockpit uses a deeper 40 × 80 mm main profile for drivers planning a more substantial setup. Use the compatibility selector on the product page, or ask us to check the DD10 and mount combination before ordering.

Plan the wheel height, pedal distance and cable routes before tightening everything down. A comfortable position makes the force feedback easier to work with over a full session. Our Club versus Sport comparison helps if you are planning further upgrades.

Frequently asked questions

Does the DD10 include the 14 Nm upgrade?

No. The standard wheelbase delivers 10 Nm. The Boost Kit is sold separately.

Can I use any USB steering wheel on Xbox?

No. Third-party USB connectivity is a PC feature to check with the appropriate adapter. Xbox use requires an Asetek Racing Xbox-compatible wheel.

What else do I need to start racing?

Plan for a compatible steering wheel, pedals, a suitable mounting solution and your gaming platform. Check what each bundle includes before comparing total prices.

Does every Asetek mount fit the DD10?

Check the exact model and bolt pattern. The DD10 includes a bottom mount conversion plate, but brand-level compatibility alone is not enough to confirm a particular installation.
