Is the Raceline LC upgrade worth it on a T598 rig?

Is the Raceline LC upgrade worth it on a T598 rig?

Is the Raceline LC upgrade worth it on a T598 rig?

Yes, for most T598 owners the Raceline LC upgrade is worth it, but only when the pedals sit on a fixed pedal deck. The kit turns the standard two pedal Raceline set into a three pedal set with a load cell brake that measures pressure up to 100 kg with 24 bit resolution. That gives you much more consistent braking. On a carpet or a light stand, the pedals move under that force, and you lose most of the benefit.

Below you learn what the kit includes, why a load cell brake feels different and what your frame needs before you install it.

What is the Raceline LC upgrade?

It is the official load cell kit for the pedals that come with the T598.

What is in the box

Thrustmaster released the Raceline LC Upgrade in April 2026. The kit includes a load cell brake pedal, an extra spring and elastomer buffer, a metal plate for three pedals and two metal pedal faces. According to Thrustmaster, the load cell handles up to 100 kg, which is about 220 lb, with 24 bit resolution. It fits the Raceline Pedals LTE that come with the T598, and the Raceline Pedals III.

From two pedals to three

The standard T598 pedals have only a throttle and a brake. After the upgrade, the old brake moves to the clutch position and the new load cell takes over braking. So you also gain a clutch for manual cars. That makes the kit a double upgrade for anyone who races older cars or uses an H pattern shifter.

Why does a load cell brake feel different?

The difference lies in what the sensor measures.

Pressure instead of travel

A standard brake pedal measures how far you push it. A load cell measures how hard you push it. Real car brakes work by pressure too, so your leg learns the right force much faster. After a few sessions, you brake by feel and stop counting centimetres of pedal travel. That makes trail braking and threshold braking easier to repeat lap after lap.

Consistency over a full race

Consistency wins races, not one fast lap. Johan Akkerman, founder of SIMGASM, won the DNRT BMW E30 Cup and Endurance Series in 2023 and 2024. His view from real racing is clear: equipment should help you stay consistent over long sessions, not only feel stiff for five minutes. A load cell brake on a solid deck is one of the best tools for that. You fine tune the feel with the spring and elastomer, as explained in our brake pedal elastomer and travel tuning guide.

What does your rig need before you upgrade?

A load cell pushes back with real force, so the frame around it matters.

A fixed pedal deck

The Raceline pedals come with non slip pads for the floor. That works for light braking, but not for a load cell. When you press hard, the pedal set slides or tilts, and the brake point moves every lap. Bolt the pedal plate to a pedal deck instead. Our guide on mounting T598 pedals on a cockpit shows how to do that.

Space for the wider plate

The three pedal plate is wider than the two pedal base. Check this before you order, so the new plate does not end up too wide for your current stand. Measure your pedal deck first and check the hole positions against the mounting info from Thrustmaster. An aluminium profile deck makes this easier, because you slide the mounting points to where you need them.

Which SIMGASM cockpit handles a load cell brake?

Each SIMGASM tier has a rated braking load, which tells you how much force the pedal deck takes.

Hobby or Club for a T598 with load cell

The Hobby has a rated braking load of 150 kg at the pedal deck, and the Club 200 kg. Both are above the 100 kg range of the Raceline load cell. Still, SIMGASM advises the Club for drivers who brake hard on a load cell pedal or race at maximum force for long sessions. The Club uses a 40 × 80 mm main profile, which adds structural reserve. Compare both in SIMGASM Hobby or Club.

Sport and Pro for a long term build

The Sport and Pro go up to a rated braking load of 300 kg. They make sense if you plan a stronger pedal set or a motion system later. SIMGASM tests every product as part of a complete simulator, so the wheel deck, pedal deck and seat mount are designed to work together. How do you set up the load cell for the best feel?

A good setup takes ten minutes and makes a big difference.

Seat distance first

A load cell only works well when your seat stays in place. Set the seat so your knee keeps a small bend at full brake pressure. A locking seat slider keeps that distance fixed, even when you push hard. If the seat slides, your braking point drifts with it.

Then calibrate the brake force

Set the maximum brake force to a level you reach comfortably, not at the limit of your leg. Most drivers brake best when full pressure feels firm but not tiring. Then use the springs, the elastomer and the preload to shape the first part of the pedal travel. Thinking about the base too? Read T598 or wait for the MOZA R5S Pro.

Quick answers about the Raceline LC upgrade

These are the most common questions about the load cell kit for the T598.

Does the Raceline LC upgrade fit the T598 pedals?

Yes. Thrustmaster says the kit fits the Raceline Pedals LTE that come with the T598, and the Raceline Pedals III.

How much force does the load cell measure?

Thrustmaster lists a capacity of 100 kg, about 220 lb, with 24 bit resolution.

Can I keep the load cell pedals on the floor?

They work there for light braking, but they slide under hard braking. A fixed pedal deck keeps the brake point in the same place every lap.

Is the Hobby strong enough for a load cell brake?

The Hobby has a rated braking load of 150 kg. For hard braking over long sessions, SIMGASM advises the Club with 200 kg.
