T598 or wait for the MOZA R5S Pro in 2026?

If you race on PS5 and want a direct drive wheel now, the T598 is the safe choice: it is on sale, it works on PS5, PS4 and PC, and its specs are public. The MOZA R5S Pro is still an announcement. MOZA revealed its first PS5 lineup on 17 September 2026, but it has not yet published torque figures, pricing or a release date for the PlayStation models. Waiting only pays off if you specifically want the MOZA ecosystem on your console.

Below we compare what is known today, what is still open and why the frame you choose matters for both options.

What do we know about the T598 today?

The T598 has been on the market for a while, so its numbers are clear.

The official specs

Thrustmaster lists 5 Nm of constant torque with an overshoot of up to 100% and a latency of 5 ms. The motor is a Direct Axial Drive design without cogging, which keeps rotation smooth at low speed. The bundle includes a 30 cm SPORTCAR rim and the Raceline Pedals LTE, a two pedal set. Since April 2026, Thrustmaster also sells the Raceline LC Upgrade, which adds a load cell brake.

Platforms and ecosystem

The T598 works on PS5, PS4 and PC. It also connects to a large range of Thrustmaster rims, shifters and handbrakes. For a PS5 driver who already owns Thrustmaster gear, that is a big plus, because the extras stay useful.

What do we know about the MOZA R5S Pro?

The MOZA side is exciting, but most details are still missing.

The PS5 announcement

On 17 September 2026, MOZA announced the R5S Pro Racing Simulator, the R16S Ultra Racing Simulator and a standalone R16S Ultra base for PlayStation 5. The R5S Pro package includes a base, a steering wheel and pedals. MOZA says Gran Turismo 7 support is native and developed together with Polyphony Digital. We covered the full announcement in MOZA is coming to PS5.

What is still unknown

MOZA has not published torque figures for the PS5 versions. On PC, the R5 Pro bundle lists 6 Nm, but that does not prove the same number for the R5S Pro. Pricing, availability and the launch date are also still open, and PS5 operation depends on final approval by Sony. So today, any direct comparison of strength stays a guess.

Should you buy a T598 now or wait?

The answer depends on three simple things: your timing, your gear and your games.

Buy the T598 now if

You want to race this season, you already own Thrustmaster rims or a TH8A shifter, or you simply want a proven base with known specs. The T598 is ready today, and a solid frame makes the most of its sharp overshoot effects. You also avoid the risk of early stock shortages that often come with a new launch.

Wait for the R5S Pro if

You mainly play Gran Turismo 7, you like the idea of the MOZA ecosystem on console and you are happy to race on your current setup for a few more months. Wait for real reviews and confirmed specs before you decide. Johan Akkerman, founder of SIMGASM, tested a wide range of wheel bases, pedals and cockpits through years of racing and international exhibitions. His advice in short: judge hardware on how it feels in a complete setup, not on a launch post.

Why your frame matters for both bases

Whatever base you pick, the frame decides how much of its detail reaches your hands.

One frame for either choice

The T598 and the MOZA bases both mount from the underside. On SIMGASM cockpits, the Bottom Mount covers supported underside patterns from both Thrustmaster and MOZA. That means you buy the frame now, race with a T598 today and still keep the option to switch base later. Always compare the exact mounting diagram of your base with the mount on the cockpit page before you order.

Which tier fits a 5 or 6 Nm base

SIMGASM places the T598 in its up to 16 Nm Hobby category, with a 40 × 40 mm main profile and a rated braking load of 150 kg. That covers a 5 or 6 Nm base with room to spare. The Club, with a 40 × 80 mm profile and 200 kg braking load, makes sense if you plan a stronger base or a load cell brake. You find every matching frame in the cockpit for the Thrustmaster T598 collection. Our guide to the best cockpit for the MOZA R5 covers the MOZA side.

What else should a PS5 driver plan?

The base is only one part of a PS5 setup, so plan the rest at the same time.

Rims, screen and space

If you go for the T598, look at which rims you want later, because each rim changes your reach. Our guide on which wheel rims work on a T598 cockpit helps you choose. Then plan a TV or monitor at eye height and check your room. A compact aluminium sim rig like the Hobby measures 500 × 1270 × 580 mm. SIMGASM is a Dutch company based in Wijk bij Duurstede and ships directly from the Netherlands, so your frame arrives quickly while you wait for the MOZA news.
