How do you update Simagic firmware in 2026?

You update Simagic firmware in SimPro Manager. Install the app version that matches your base (SimPro Manager 3 for the Alpha EVO range), connect the base straight to a USB port on the motherboard, close SimHub and run the update from the device page. Never unplug the base, close the app or switch off the power while the update runs, because an interrupted write is the main reason a base stops working.

That sounds simple, and most of the time it is. Still, a few small mistakes cause almost every failed update. This guide explains the full routine, the order that works best and what to do when something goes wrong.

Why firmware matters on a Simagic setup

Firmware is the small program that runs inside your wheelbase, wheel and pedals.

What changes after an update

Simagic uses firmware updates to refine force feedback, fix bugs and add features. In 2026, for example, an EVO base update added SimHub control of the LED ring without changing the force feedback itself. Other releases brought new telemetry support for games and fixes for steering wheels and pedals. So an update is often the quickest way to solve a strange issue, such as a wheel that loses buttons or a dash that stops showing data.

Why the app version matters

SimPro Manager 2 and SimPro Manager 3 are separate apps. Version 2 is for the older Alpha, Alpha Mini and Alpha U bases. Version 3 is for the Alpha EVO family, which includes the 9 Nm Sport, the 12 Nm EVO, the 18 Nm Pro and the 28 Nm Ultra. Simagic also states that EVO firmware 2.3.2 and newer only works with SimPro Manager 3.1.1 or newer. In short, an old app and a new base do not mix. You find the full range in our Simagic wheel bases, wheels and pedals collection.

How do you update Simagic firmware step by step?

Follow these steps in this order, and most updates finish in a few minutes.

Prepare your PC first

First, download the newest SimPro Manager from the official Simagic download page. If you still have the wrong version installed, remove it completely before you install the right one. Next, close SimHub and any other app that talks to your hardware, because they block the connection. Then plug the base into a USB port on the back of the PC. Front panel ports, hubs and extension cables often drop the signal for a split second, and that is enough to corrupt a firmware write.

Run the update

Now power cycle the base: switch it off, wait about ten seconds and switch it on again. Open SimPro Manager and wait until it shows your base. When an update is available, the app tells you. Click update and leave the PC alone. Do not touch the wheel, do not start a game and do not let the PC go to sleep. After the update, restart the base once more and check that your profiles still load.

Our founder Johan Akkerman learned this habit in the workshop. He worked as a technical specialist and workshop manager for Mercedes-Benz and Jaguar, where a software flash on a car always started with a stable power supply and a direct cable. The same logic applies to a direct drive base.

Which order works best for base, wheel and pedals?

A calm order prevents most version clashes between devices.

Base first, then wheel

Update the wheelbase first, because it carries power and data to the wheel through the slip ring. Then update the steering wheel while it sits on the base. Simagic warns against connecting the USB C port of a wheel to the PC while it is docked on the base. Use the official method in SimPro Manager or the guide for that specific wheel.

Pedals and add ons last

Finally, update pedals, shifters and handbrakes. Connect them directly to the PC, not through the base or a hub. For the P1000 family, avoid old standalone update tools, because users report that one older tool downgrades pedal firmware. After the update, run a fresh calibration, as explained in our Simagic P1000 pedals setup guide.

Even or odd firmware: which version should you pick?

Simagic sometimes offers two firmware versions at the same time, and the numbering tells you what they do.

Default versus stronger feedback

Simagic explains that even numbered versions are the default, while odd numbered versions give stronger force feedback. In mid 2026, for example, the EVO bases received two optional versions, 2.3.4 and 2.3.5. The odd version had to be installed by hand. If you are new, start with the default version. After that, you tune strength in the software, as shown in our guide to SimPro Manager settings explained.

What do you do when a Simagic update fails?

A failed update looks scary, but in most cases the base recovers.

Common symptoms and fixes

Signs of a bad update include a base that feels weak, makes noise, does not show up in SimPro Manager or reports the wrong torque. First, move the cable to a rear USB port, close SimHub and power cycle the base. Then run the update again. Simagic also offers an offline recovery tool to roll back to a stable version. If you roll back to an older SimPro Manager, flash the matching base firmware first. If nothing helps, contact your retailer and Simagic support instead of trying more home fixes. Missing game presets after an update are a different issue; our article on the FH6 preset missing in SimPro Manager shows that fix.

Keep the rig stable during updates

A loose cable is a hidden risk. On a rig that flexes, a USB plug moves a little every time the base works hard. At SIMGASM, every product is tested as part of a complete simulator, not as a loose part, so cable routing along the aluminium profile is part of that test. Tidy, strain free cables keep both updates and racing sessions stable.

Questions and answers

Here are short answers to the questions we hear most about Simagic firmware.

How often should you update Simagic firmware?

Update when a new SimPro Manager release fixes something you use, or when support asks you to. There is no need to install every release on the first day.

Does a firmware update reset your settings?

Usually your profiles stay, but always check them after an update. Export your favourite profiles first, so you restore them in a minute.

Can you update Simagic firmware through a USB hub?

It is better not to. A hub or front port drops the connection more easily, and an interrupted write is the most common cause of a failed update.

Which SimPro Manager do you need for an Alpha EVO?

You need SimPro Manager 3. Version 2 is for the older Alpha, Alpha Mini and Alpha U bases.
