Yes, you can use many other wheels on a Simagic Alpha EVO base. The key part is the Simagic QR-A quick release adapter. It bolts to standard 50 mm and 70 mm wheel patterns and passes power and data through a built in USB connection, so a supported USB wheel from another brand works on your Alpha EVO. Always check that your wheel uses a supported bolt pattern and USB protocol before you buy.
That freedom is great if you already own a favourite rim, or if you want a wheel that Simagic does not make. Below, we explain how it works, which wheels fit and where the limits are.
How does a third party wheel connect to a Simagic base?
Two things must match: the mechanical bolt pattern and the electrical connection.
The mechanical side
Most steering wheels use a ring of six bolts. The two common sizes are 6x70 mm, which most round and GT rims use, and 6x50 mm, which some formula wheels use. The Alpha EVO product pages state that third party rims with a 6x70 mm pattern fit when you add the correct quick release adapter. The QR-A goes further and supports both 50 mm and 70 mm patterns. It is CNC machined from forged aluminium alloy, measures 87 x 87 x 91 mm and weighs 467 g.
The electrical side
Buttons, paddles and displays need power and data. On a Simagic wheel, that travels through the slip ring in the base. On a third party wheel, the QR-A carries it through its built in USB interface. Simagic advises a short USB data cable. A long, loose cable twists when you turn the wheel, and that leads to dropouts mid corner.

Which wheels work on the Alpha EVO with the QR-A?
Simagic keeps a tested list on its own accessory page, and that list grows with firmware updates.
Wheels that usually fit
USB wheels with a standard 50 mm or 70 mm pattern are the best candidates. Think of button boxes on round rims, formula wheels with their own USB controller and many boutique rims. The adapter is made for the whole Alpha EVO family: the Simagic Third Party Quick Release Adapter lists the Sport 9 Nm, EVO 12 Nm, Pro 18 Nm and Ultra 28 Nm as supported bases.
Where the limits are
Simagic is open about the limits. The brand says the adapter does not promise flawless results with every wheel from day one. Tolerances differ between wheels, and some combinations need fine tuning. Wheels that use a wireless or brand locked protocol, or that need power through a proprietary connector, often do not work at all. So check the tested list, and if your wheel is not on it, ask before you order.
Our founder Johan Akkerman knows this mix and match world well. His own setup moved from Fanatec hardware to a Simucube 2 base with a Rexing wheel, and through years of events and exhibitions he has tested a wide range of wheelbases and rims. His advice is simple: the adapter solves the bolts, but the electronics decide whether it is a good match.
Should you keep a Simagic wheel or switch brands?
Both options make sense, so think about what you really need from the rim.
When a Simagic wheel is the easy choice
A Simagic wheel on a Simagic base is plug and play. It connects through the slip ring, so there is no extra cable, and every button works in SimPro Manager at once. The GT1 family, for example, uses the Simagic QR70 system. If you compare rims, our guide on choosing a Simagic steering wheel explains the differences between GT, formula and round rims.
When a third party wheel makes sense
A third party wheel is the smart move when you already own an expensive rim, when you want a replica of a real car wheel, or when you race on two bases and want one wheel for both. In that case, the QR-A saves you from buying a second wheel. Before you mount anything, update your base, as explained in how to update Simagic firmware, because compatibility improves through firmware.

What does your rig need for a heavier wheel?
An adapter adds a little weight and length in front of the base, so the mount matters too.
Stiffness and wheel position
The QR-A sits between the base and the wheel, so the rim moves a few centimetres closer to you. Check your seat position after you fit it, and slide the seat back if needed. A heavier rim also asks more from the wheel deck, especially on bases with high torque. SIMGASM cockpits use patented designs developed around strength and ergonomics, and every product is tested as part of a complete simulator. Our Simagic Alpha mounting guide explains bolt patterns and brackets for a solid fit.

Questions and answers
These short answers cover the most common questions about other wheels on Simagic bases.
Do Fanatec wheels work on a Simagic base?
Not out of the box. Fanatec wheels use their own quick release and protocol, so a standard USB adapter does not make them work. Check the Simagic tested list for any update.
Does the QR-A work on the older Alpha bases?
The QR-A is made for the Alpha EVO family. SIMGASM lists the Sport 9 Nm, EVO 12 Nm, Pro 18 Nm and Ultra 28 Nm as supported bases.
Do all buttons work on a third party wheel?
On supported USB wheels, the buttons show up as a separate USB device in your game. Map them in the game controls, just like a button box.
Which bolt pattern do most rims use?
Most round and GT rims use 6x70 mm. Some formula style wheels use 6x50 mm. The QR-A supports both.
