Why does free roam change the screen choice?
Open roads ask different things from your view than a race circuit does.
Junctions, villages and traffic need a wide view
On a circuit you mostly look ahead. In free roam you cross junctions, pass pedestrians in villages and share the road with AI traffic. You need to see left and right without effort. A single monitor shows too little of that, which is why so many drivers now pick triple screens or a headset.

Long sessions put comfort first
A free roam evening lasts much longer than a race stint. Comfort becomes as important as immersion. A headset that feels fine for 30 minutes may feel heavy after two hours. Triple screens never sit on your head, but they take more space in the room.

VR puts you inside the car, and EVO has improved its VR support a lot in 2026.
Depth and natural head movement
In VR you judge distance and speed the way you do in a real car. You turn your head to look through a hairpin or check a junction. Update 0.8 in July 2026 brought foveated rendering, a 50 to 150 percent pixel density slider, world scale controls and a separate VR video profile. What VR asks from you and your rig
VR needs a strong PC, and a big open map with traffic and weather asks more than a single car on a track. How free roam runs in VR only becomes clear after release, so test before you upgrade. You also drive blind to your real controls, so the wheel, pedals and shifter must sit exactly where your hands and feet expect them. Plan the headset cable away from the wheel shaft and pedals.
