The first Eifel free roam map in Assetto Corsa EVO covers about 70 square kilometres. It arrives with Update 0.10 on 9 December 2026 on Steam. Kunos plans to grow the map step by step to roughly 1,600 square kilometres, with around 400 km of drivable roads, in later Early Access updates.
So your first drive is not the full Eifel yet. It is a dense slice around the Nürburgring Nordschleife, with the villages and access roads that real visitors know well. Below you find what that area includes, how large the final map becomes and what this means for the simulator you drive it in.
What does the first free roam area include?
The first release focuses on the roads closest to the circuit, so you start where the action is.
The Nordschleife and the villages around it
Kunos cofounder Marco Massarutto confirmed the details at SimRacing Expo in Frankfurt in October 2026. The first area includes the Nordschleife, Nürburg, Adenau, Müllenbach and the other villages close to the track. He described the size as more or less the size of Manhattan.
The perimeter access roads of the Nordschleife are part of it too. That means you drive to the spectator spots, campsites and car parks that fans know from real visits. For many drivers, that part feels just as special as a lap of the track itself. Read our Assetto Corsa EVO 0.10 overview for the first announcement and our setup advice around it.
What 70 square kilometres feels like behind the wheel
Picture an area of about 7 by 10 km, packed with village streets, forest roads and the circuit in the middle. One lap of the Nordschleife alone is 20.8 km. Add the connecting roads, the town centres and the off road tracks, and a relaxed evening drive easily lasts an hour or more.
That is very different from a 2 minute lap on a short circuit. You brake for junctions, slow down in villages and open up again on the empty stretches. Our Nordschleife survival guide helps you learn the track part of the map first.

How big will the full Eifel map become?
The 70 square kilometres are only the first phase of a much larger plan.
From 70 to about 1,600 square kilometres
The full Eifel recreation aims for about 1,600 square kilometres at a 1:1 scale. Kunos builds it from lidar data, so road lengths, widths, bends, bridges and elevation changes follow the real terrain. Around 400 km of roads should be drivable in the end.
The buildings are partly procedural. Massarutto said about 60 percent of them are placed through an editor instead of being modelled one by one. Kunos adds new parts of the region in several updates after December, so the map grows during Early Access.
Which features arrive with the first map?
The first build already has more than empty roads. Reports of the official reveal list a world map with points of interest, fuel stations and tyre centres where you refuel and change tyres. Point to point Time Attack events with online leaderboards give you a reason to push.
Changing weather, a full day and night cycle and AI traffic based on local traffic patterns add variety. You drive alone or online, and Massarutto mentioned up to 30 players in multiplayer. Car rental, aftermarket parts and an in game economy are not confirmed for 0.10.
Why the map size changes your sim setup
A bigger world means longer sessions, and longer sessions show every weak point of your setup.
Long drives ask for a comfortable position
On a big map you sit for an hour, not for ten laps. Your back, shoulders and legs need support the whole time. Start with the seat, then set the pedal distance and wheel reach around your body. A reclining backrest helps you find a relaxed road car posture.
SIMGASM founder Johan Akkerman has raced since 2008, from esports titles such as the 2019 Project CARS 2 world team championship to real cars in the Alpine A110 Cup. That mix of virtual and real driving is why SIMGASM tests every product as part of a complete simulator, not as a loose part.

A stable frame for kerbs, bumps and gravel
Free roam mixes smooth tarmac with rough village roads and off road paths. Each bump sends a force spike through your wheelbase into the frame. A frame that flexes blurs that detail, so you feel less of the road.
The Hobby uses a 40 x 40 mm main profile and measures 500 x 1270 x 580 mm, a smart choice for wheelbases up to 16 Nm. The Club steps up to a 40 x 80 mm profile with a rated braking load of 200 kg at the pedal deck. Both are a sim racing cockpit developed in house by SIMGASM in Wijk bij Duurstede, the Netherlands. Questions about the AC EVO Eifel map
These are the questions drivers ask most about the size of the free roam map.
How big is the first AC EVO free roam map?
About 70 square kilometres. It covers the Nordschleife, Nürburg, Adenau, Müllenbach, the nearby villages and the access roads around the track.
How big will the complete Eifel map be?
Kunos aims for about 1,600 square kilometres at a 1:1 scale, with around 400 km of drivable roads. New areas arrive in updates after 9 December 2026.
Can you drive off road in AC EVO free roam?
Yes. You leave the tarmac and drive on unpaved paths, which makes a rigid frame and a comfortable position even more useful.
Is the Nordschleife part of the free roam map?
Yes. The circuit sits inside the open world, so you drive from a village straight onto the track and back out again.
