A good sim rig should feel like a real car: solid, predictable and quiet. But even the best aluminium profile cockpit can develop small squeaks or rattles over time, especially if you race with high torque wheels, load cell pedals, or tactile.
This maintenance guide gives you a simple routine that keeps your SIMGASM simulator tight and silent without turning your hobby into a workshop.
Why profile rigs “settle” after assembly
When you first assemble a profile rig, bolts compress into the coating and into the mating surfaces. After a few sessions, parts can settle slightly. That is normal. The fix is easy: re torque once, then check occasionally.
The re torque schedule (simple and effective)
- After the first weekend: check wheel mount bolts, seat bolts, pedal deck bolts.
- After 2–4 weeks: recheck the same points and add a quick cable inspection.
- Every 3 months: fast check of high load points (wheel mount and pedal deck).
The five points that cause most squeaks
- Wheel mount plates: heavy bases amplify tiny movement. Use a strong mount like front wheelmount and check the plate bolts.
- Seat rails and sliders: sliders can click when loose. Check the dual locking slider set bolts.
- Pedal deck: load cell brakes flex weak plates. Use the universal peripheral deck and re torque mounting points.
- Shifter/handbrake mounts: lever forces cause creaks. Check the shifter and handbrake mount bolts.
- Loose cables: cables can buzz against profile edges. Add strain relief and service loops.
Cable checks that prevent weird problems
Cables do not just look messy; they cause real issues: intermittent USB disconnects, buzzing noises and random input glitches.
- Use service loops and strain relief so cables do not pull on connectors.
- Mount hubs and power bricks cleanly on a tray: PC tray.
- Keep your keyboard/mouse positions stable: keyboard mount and mouse tray.
Cleaning and keeping the rig looking new
SIMGASM powder coats are designed to be durable and easy to clean. For day to day care:
- Use a microfiber cloth for dust.
- For fingerprints, use a lightly damp cloth and dry after.
- Avoid harsh solvents on coated surfaces.
When to upgrade instead of tightening
If you constantly tighten the same area, the issue may be that the hardware needs a stronger base. High torque wheels and motion setups benefit most from the SIMGASM Sport simulator or SIMGASM Pro simulator.
The 5 minute maintenance checklist
- Grab the wheel and push/pull: no movement should be visible at the mount.
- Press the brake hard: pedal deck should not flex or creak.
- Turn the wheel lock to lock: listen for cable rubbing or buzzing.
- Check seat bolts and rails: no clicks under braking.
- Do a quick visual scan: any cable hanging loose gets tied down.
If you use Atlas seats, remember the cushions are designed to be washable. Keeping your seat clean makes long sessions more comfortable.
