That desk-based setup is not a mistake. For many owners, it is the best way to learn what they value before investing in the next part of their rig. The important question comes later: when does the desk clamp stop being a convenient solution and start limiting consistency, comfort or future upgrades?

What is included with the new MOZA R5 Pro?

MOZA introduced the R5 Pro Racing Simulator in July 2026 as an entry point into direct-drive racing. The package includes the following main components:

  • a 6 Nm MOZA R5 Pro direct-drive wheelbase;
  • an ES Lite steering wheel;
  • SRP Lite2 pedals; and
  • a desk clamp.

The included clamp matters because it gives the bundle a low-friction starting point. You do not need to decide on a complete cockpit before you have driven your first laps. MOZA also lists bottom, front and desktop mounting options for the R5 Pro wheelbase, so the wheelbase can move beyond the supplied desk clamp when your setup develops.

The SRP Lite2 pedal set is also designed as a platform that can evolve. MOZA lists optional Brake Performance Kits and Throttle & Clutch Performance Kits. That means an owner may begin with the standard pedal feel and later create a firmer or more involved pedal setup. 1. The desk moves when force feedback becomes active

Six newton metres is accessible, but it is still direct-drive force feedback. A light desk can shake, twist or transfer noise into the room. Tightening the clamp harder is not always the answer, especially with a desk surface that was never designed to support steering loads.

2. The chair rolls away under braking

Even if the wheelbase is secure, an office chair can move when you press the brake. You then compensate with your body instead of building a consistent braking motion. Temporary wheel stops can help, but they do not create one connected seating and control position.

3. The pedals slide or change angle

Pedals placed against a wall can work, but floor surfaces, skirting boards and room layouts vary. If the pedal set moves, lifts or changes angle, every braking zone starts from a slightly different position. A fixed pedal tray removes that variable and becomes more valuable when you add a firmer pedal kit later.

4. Every session starts with adjustment

Measure how much time you spend moving the monitor, centring the wheel, placing the pedals and finding the correct chair distance. If setup and removal take long enough that you race less often, a permanent or semi-permanent cockpit may be the more practical choice.

A shifter, handbrake, stronger pedal set or other control needs a stable mounting point. A desk can become crowded quickly. Planning the next two upgrades before choosing a frame helps you avoid replacing the cockpit again when your equipment grows.

Choose the SIMGASM Hobby for a compact first cockpit

The SIMGASM Hobby cockpit range is the natural first step for an R5 Pro owner who wants a compact aluminium-profile platform without buying more frame than the current setup needs.

The R5 Pro's 6 Nm output sits comfortably inside SIMGASM's confirmed guidance for the Hobby platform, which can handle wheelbases up to and including 16 Nm when the complete use case is suitable. The Hobby is therefore not a temporary answer that is too weak for the R5 Pro. It provides enough wheelbase capacity while keeping the frame lighter and easier to place than the larger models in the range.

Choose Hobby when you race occasionally, value compact dimensions and expect to keep the R5 Pro or another moderate-torque wheelbase for a meaningful period. It is also the logical route when the main problems are a moving chair, sliding pedals or repeated desk setup rather than a long list of heavy add-ons.

The mounting configuration still needs attention. MOZA lists bottom mounting for the R5 Pro. Select the corresponding cockpit mount and verify the current bolt pattern, bolt length and required hardware before assembly. Torque capacity and physical mounting compatibility are related decisions, but they are not the same decision.

Choose the SIMGASM Club for more frequent racing and upgrades

The SIMGASM Club cockpit range is the stronger step for an owner who already knows that sim racing will become a regular activity. Its base profile is twice as thick as the Hobby base profile, giving it more structure for an evolving setup.

You do not need Club because 6 Nm is too much for Hobby. It is not. The reason to choose Club is the wider ownership plan: more frequent sessions, firmer pedals, a shifter or handbrake, more mounted accessories, or a likely wheelbase upgrade later.

Club can therefore be the better-value decision when buying Hobby now would only delay a planned frame upgrade. It offers more headroom while remaining below Sport and Pro in the SIMGASM range. That headroom is not unlimited: within SIMGASM's wheelbase guidance, Club remains the relevant choice up to and including 26 Nm. If you already plan to exceed 26 Nm, start with Sport or Pro instead of treating Club as an intermediate purchase.

One Club limitation should also remain clear: it does not include the integrated cable-management holes found on Sport and Pro. If hidden routing is a priority, include that in the decision before ordering.

Second, write down the hardware you expect to use over the next two years. Start with the R5 Pro bundle, then add realistic possibilities such as a firmer pedal kit, clutch, shifter, handbrake or a different wheelbase. Avoid building the list around upgrades you are unlikely to buy.

Third, decide whether compact storage or upgrade headroom matters more. This separates Hobby and Club more clearly than the R5 Pro's torque figure alone. Hobby is already strong enough for the wheelbase. Club earns its place when frequency, pedal force and expansion become more important.

Finally, confirm the mounting configuration before checkout. Check the latest MOZA mounting information and the selected cockpit option rather than assuming that every plate uses the same holes or fasteners. During installation, follow the manufacturer instructions and use suitable hardware. Do not reuse the desk clamp as part of a fixed cockpit installation unless the chosen mounting system explicitly requires it.

The most useful change is repeatability. The wheel, pedals and seat remain in the positions you set. You can focus on driving instead of rebuilding the setup before every session.
