VR motion sickness in sim racing is common, especially when you are new to VR or when your settings are not stable. The good news is that most discomfort has clear causes: unstable frame timing, wrong camera settings, or a rig posture that makes your body work harder than it should.
This guide is a practical checklist. Apply it in order and test after each change.
Rule 1: stability beats graphics
If your VR frame timing is inconsistent, your brain feels the mismatch between what you see and what you feel. Aim for a stable refresh target (72/80/90 Hz depending on your headset) and reduce the biggest performance hitters first.
- Lower mirrors and shadows before lowering resolution.
- Avoid background apps while testing.
- Use a consistent refresh rate you can actually hold.

Rule 2: fix camera settings that trigger nausea
- Lock horizon: if your sim has an option, keep the horizon stable.
- Reduce extra camera movement: excessive head bob and camera shake is immersive on monitors but can be uncomfortable in VR.
- Start with slower cars: GT cars are often easier than high downforce open wheelers.
Rule 3: reduce sensory conflict
When the car rotates quickly (spins, fast direction changes) your inner ear does not feel the same movement. You can reduce this conflict with small choices:
- Use short sessions (10–15 minutes) and take breaks. You build tolerance over time.
- Keep a fan blowing toward your face. This simple trick helps many people.
- Lower FFB strength slightly at first. Overly strong, jerky steering can add discomfort.
Rule 4: your rig posture matters more than you think
If you sit too upright or too reclined, your neck and core work harder, and fatigue increases. A stable pelvis and relaxed shoulders make VR easier.
- Comfort focused seat: Core Recline seat for long sessions.

Rule 5: build a VR friendly cockpit layout
VR is easiest when everything has a predictable place.
- Mount your keyboard where you can find it without taking the headset off: keyboard swivel mount.
- Mount a mouse tray for menus: mouse tray.
- Keep hydration easy during long stints: cupholder.
- Use a rigid cockpit so the wheel does not shake: SIMGASM Sport simulator or SIMGASM Pro simulator.
If you still feel sick, do this one thing
Stop immediately and take a break. Do not “push through” nausea. You improve fastest by staying comfortable and gradually extending sessions over days.
