VR can be the most immersive way to sim race, but it can also be the most frustrating: blurry distance markers, stutters when you turn your head, or a headset that feels great in one sim and terrible in another.
OpenXR is the modern VR API that many sims use. OpenXR Toolkit (when supported) can help you tune clarity and performance with tools like upscaling, sharpening and fixed foveated rendering. This guide shows a practical workflow that improves comfort without turning your settings into a science project.
Step 1: target stability first
For VR, the number one rule is: stable frame timing beats higher graphics. Even a small stutter can feel worse in VR than on monitors.
- Choose a headset refresh rate you can hold (72/80/90 Hz are common targets).
- Reduce mirrors and shadows before reducing resolution.
- Keep background apps and overlays minimal while testing.
