How much space does a triple monitor setup need?

A triple monitor setup with three 27 inch screens needs about 125 to 150 cm of width, and three 32 inch screens need about 145 to 175 cm, depending on the angle of the side screens. Add the rig itself, which is often around 130 cm long, and plan a floor area of roughly 160 to 180 cm wide and 180 to 200 cm deep. Leave extra room on one side so you can climb in and out easily.

Those numbers come from simple geometry. In this guide you see how screen size, side angle and stand type change the space you need, so you can measure your room before you buy.

How wide is a triple screen setup?

The width depends on two things: the size of each panel and the angle of the side screens.

Panel width per screen size

A 27 inch 16:9 monitor is about 60 cm wide without bezels, so count around 61 cm per screen. A 32 inch 16:9 monitor is about 71 cm wide, so count around 72 cm. Placed flat in one straight line, three 27 inch screens take about 183 cm and three 32 inch screens take about 216 cm. Nobody races like that, though, because the side screens always angle towards you.

The effect of the side angle

When you rotate the side screens inwards, the total width shrinks. At an angle of 45 degrees, a 27 inch triple setup is about 147 cm wide. At 60 degrees, it drops to about 122 cm. For 32 inch screens the same angles give about 174 cm and 144 cm. A closer seating position needs a sharper angle, which also saves space. How deep does the setup go?

Depth is the part most racers forget when they measure a room.

Side screens reach backwards

Angled side screens extend back towards the driver. At 45 degrees, a 27 inch side screen reaches about 43 cm back from the centre screen line. At 60 degrees, it reaches about 53 cm. That space sits next to your wheel and seat, so it overlaps with the rig rather than adding a lot of extra depth.

The rig and stand together

A compact cockpit such as the SIMGASM Hobby has a footprint of 58 by 130 cm. The centre screen sits just in front of the wheelbase, and a freestanding stand adds its own feet in front of the rig. The Apex Free Standing Single, for example, has a footprint of 83 by 61 cm. Add 30 to 40 cm behind the seat to slide it back, and you end up close to 180 to 200 cm of total depth.

Integrated or freestanding: which saves more room?

The type of stand changes the footprint more than the screen size does.

Integrated stands

An integrated stand bolts to the cockpit itself, so it adds almost no floor space. It is the most compact choice for a small room. The trade off is that force feedback from a strong wheelbase travels into the screens. Our guide to monitor shake explains how to deal with that.

Freestanding stands

A freestanding stand sits on its own feet around the rig. It needs more floor space, but it keeps vibration away from the screens and works with any cockpit or wheel stand. The Apex freestanding triple stand weighs 36 kg, which keeps it steady even with large panels. Check our guide on cable management on a triple monitor stand once the stand is in place.

Measure your room in three steps

A quick floor plan with tape saves you from returns and frustration.

First, mark the rig footprint on the floor with masking tape. Second, mark the centre screen line just in front of the wheelbase and draw the side screens at your planned angle. Third, check the space on your entry side and behind the seat. If the tape fits with 50 to 60 cm to spare on one side, your triple setup fits too.

SIMGASM develops its cockpits and monitor stands in house from Wijk bij Duurstede, with development started in January 2026. Founder Johan Akkerman has tested an extensive range of cockpits and accessories across the market, and that experience shaped compact, modular stands that grow with your setup.

Q&A

These short answers cover the most common space questions.

Do triple monitors fit in a small bedroom?

Often yes. With 27 inch screens at a sharp angle and an integrated stand, about 130 cm of width and 170 cm of depth is enough.

Is a 32 inch triple setup too big?

Not if your room is wide enough. Plan at least 150 cm of width and sit a little further back than with 27 inch screens.

Does a freestanding stand need more room?

Yes, a little. Its feet sit around the rig, so plan an extra 20 to 30 cm of width and depth.

What angle should my side screens have?

The right angle depends on your eye position. Most racers end up between 45 and 60 degrees.
