Trak Racer buyers often get stuck on one question: front mount or bottom mount? Some rigs ship with a wheel deck, others have front-mount options, and many wheelbase manufacturers sell their own mounts (for example a VRS mount).
This guide explains wheel mount styles in a practical way, so you can choose the cleanest, stiffest option for your wheelbase and match it to the right SIMGASM mounting hardware.
The three wheel mount styles you will see on Trak Racer rigs
1) Bottom mount (wheel deck)
The wheelbase bolts up from underneath into a wheel deck or plate. This is the most common approach because many wheelbases ship with a bottom-mount pattern and it’s straightforward to install.
2) Front mount
A front mount clamps the wheelbase from the front face. It often gives a cleaner look and can be very stiff. It can also open up more adjustment range for wheel height and angle on some cockpits.
3) Side mount
Side mounts are less universal but can be useful for certain bases and for very clean GT-style layouts. They also leave space above the base for dashboards or extra screens.
How to choose the best mount for your wheelbase
| What you want | Best mount style | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Fast install, broad compatibility | Bottom mount | Most wheelbases support it; simple bolt-up |
| Maximum stiffness and clean adjustment | Front mount | Direct load path into the rig; often cleaner cable routing |
| Extra space above the wheelbase | Side mount | Leaves room for dashboards and accessories |
Mount choice is also a cockpit ergonomics choice
Changing mount style changes the wheel’s position relative to your body. That affects elbow angle, wrist comfort, and how easily you can hold consistent steering inputs. If you want a rig you can fine tune, aluminium profile systems make that easy.
