Simagic iRacing settings: a clean baseline for GT, prototypes and formula cars

iRacing rewards consistency. That means your force feedback should be predictable, not dramatic. With Simagic wheelbases, the biggest win is getting a “clean baseline” that avoids clipping and stays comfortable for long stints.

This guide gives you a practical setup workflow for iRacing with Simagic, plus a few tuning branches for GT, prototypes and formula cars.

Step 0: make sure the cockpit is not the weak link

Before you touch software, check this:

  • The wheelbase is mounted rigidly (no plate flex, no loose bolts).
  • Your seat and pedals don’t move relative to each other under braking.
  • Cables are routed so nothing tugs when you steer.

If you’re building from scratch, SIMGASM Club cockpit (C80) is a great foundation for Simagic in this torque class, and SIMGASM Sport cockpit (C120) / SIMGASM Pro cockpit (C160) are ideal if you’re running higher torque or planning upgrades.

Step 1: set wheel rotation correctly

  1. Set a sensible max rotation in SimPro Manager (900° is a common default).
  2. In iRacing, calibrate the wheel and pedals.
  3. Let iRacing apply soft lock per car where available.

Step 2: set Wheel Force correctly so Auto FFB works

In iRacing, the Wheel Force value should match your base’s maximum torque class (for example: 10Nm, 15Nm, 23Nm). Then:

  1. Go on track.
  2. Use iRacing’s Auto force feedback strength (usually in the black box).
  3. Drive a few laps and check if big kerbs or crashes cause constant clipping.

Step 3: build a stable SimPro Manager baseline

Start with a “minimal filter” philosophy:

  • Keep smoothing low unless the wheel feels grainy on straights.
  • Use small damper/friction only to solve oscillation or an overly light center.
  • Don’t chase feel with huge filters if the real issue is cockpit flex.

Branch A: GT cars (GT3, GT4, GTP)

  • Prioritize weight build-up and steady mid-corner feel.
  • If kerbs feel too violent, reduce “detail” first, then add a touch of slew control.
  • If the wheel oscillates on straights, reduce rotation speed slightly and add a small damper.

Branch B: prototypes and high downforce

  • These cars can create big spikes. Keep your tuning calm.
  • Use headroom instead of raw gain: it’s okay to run lower strength while keeping detail.
  • Rig stiffness matters a lot. If the wheel deck twists, the car will feel nervous.

Branch C: formula cars

  • Most formula drivers prefer faster response and less damping.
  • Consider a slightly lower max rotation and let the car’s steering ratio do the work.
  • If the wheel feels too “twitchy”, don’t over-smooth. Fix seating distance and rotation speed first.
