Buying a good cockpit is only half the job. The other half is setup. A well-built aluminium profile rig can feel average if your ergonomics are off, and a mid-range rig can feel premium if your position is dialed in.
This guide is written for the GT Omega Prime Lite, but the principles apply to any 8040 aluminium profile cockpit, including the SIMGASM Club tier.
Step 1: choose your driving position target
Before you touch a bolt, decide what you’re building:
- GT position: more upright, easier for long sessions, common for GT3 and road cars.
- Formula-ish position: lower seat, higher pedals, more reclined torso, common for open wheel and prototypes.
Most Prime Lite builds start GT-style, because it is easier to fit different body sizes and pedals.
Step 2: seat mounting and comfort
Seat choice defines everything else. If you want comfort and adjustability, a recline seat is practical. If you want maximum feedback and a locked-in posture, a bucket seat is the race-style option.
- Comfort-first: Core Recline seat.
- GT bucket feel: Atlas GT seat.
- More reclined racing posture: Atlas Formula seat.
- For clean mounting and future swaps: Seat bracket set.
Step 3: wheel height, reach and angle
Set the wheel so your shoulders stay relaxed and your elbows have a comfortable bend. A quick self-check:
- Wrists can rest on top of the wheel while shoulders stay in the seat.
- At 9 and 3 o’clock, your elbows are slightly bent and not flared out.
- The wheel is roughly aligned with your chest, not your stomach.
If you want a more rigid mounting approach (especially for direct drive), a modular setup helps. On SIMGASM, start with SIMGASM wheel mount base set and pick the mount style that fits your wheelbase: SIMGASM front wheel mount or SIMGASM bottom wheel mount.
Step 4: pedal angle and heel support
Braking consistency is often a pedal angle problem, not a pedal problem. If your ankle is uncomfortable, you will change your brake pressure without noticing. Adjust pedal angle until you can push hard without lifting your heel.
Small accessories can make big differences. A simple Heel rest can improve stability and reduce fatigue in longer sessions.
Step 5: cable management that stays serviceable
Do not zip-tie everything permanently on day one. Build service loops so you can unplug a wheelbase or pedals without cutting ties. Route power and data separately where possible, and keep a clean path for seat adjustment.
