Simucube wheels can feel incredibly smooth. But if you ever experience oscillation (the wheel wobbling left-right on straights) or a “nervous” centre, it can ruin confidence fast.

This guide helps you fix oscillation and unwanted vibration without turning the wheel into a dead, over-filtered steering wheel. We’ll start with the platform, then tune with purpose.

First: confirm it’s not your cockpit

Oscillation is a control loop problem: the wheel is trying to self-centre and overshoots. A cockpit that flexes or a monitor that shakes can amplify the sensation and make you chase the wrong fix.

  • Wheel deck twist → the wheel feels “springy” and you add too much damping.
  • Loose hardware → rattle feels like FFB noise.
  • Screen wobble → your eyes interpret vibration as steering instability.

Then: a three-step tuning fix for oscillation

Step 1: add the smallest amount of damping that stops the wobble

Damping resists wheel rotation based on speed. A small amount often stabilises the centre without changing detail too much.

Step 2: add a touch of friction if needed

Friction adds constant resistance. Use it sparingly; too much becomes fatigue.

Step 3: add a little inertia only if the wheel feels twitchy

Inertia can help if the wheel feels “too eager” to change direction. Overuse makes corrections slower.

What not to do

  • Don’t crank reconstruction high just to hide a wobbly centre.
  • Don’t set torque bandwidth very low unless you accept extra lag.
  • Don’t fight oscillation with huge in-game damping; start at the wheelbase.

Kerb buzz vs oscillation: they’re different problems

Oscillation is centre instability. Kerb buzz is high-frequency texture. If kerbs feel like a drill, try:

  • Small torque bandwidth adjustment (remove only the highest frequencies)
  • A mild reconstruction increase
  • A notch filter only if you know the problematic frequency

  • Minimum force / boost: adding artificial centre boost can make the wheel hunt around centre.
  • High damping in-game: it can mask problems during braking but create weird behaviour in transitions.

Use a reference test so you don’t get lost

  1. Pick one car and one track you know well.
  2. Drive 5 laps, then make one change.
  3. Return the change if it does not clearly improve the behaviour.
