Fast laps are built on one boring superpower: repeatable braking. The Simagic P1000 pedals are popular because they’re modular and tunable, which means you can dial in a brake feel that stays consistent across different sims and cars.
This guide focuses on the practical part: mounting, calibration, brake feel tuning, and cockpit setup so your braking becomes predictable instead of “hopeful”.
What the P1000 is really good at
- Consistency: the load cell lets you brake by pressure instead of travel.
- Modularity: optional upgrades like haptics and hydraulic modules exist if you want to go deeper later.
- Adjustability: pedal face angle, height, travel and spacing can be tuned to your posture.
Step 1: mount the pedals like you mean it
Pedals are the place where most rigs flex. If the pedal set moves even a few millimeters, your brain learns the wrong “feel”.
Hardware note
The P1000 manual shows a typical sim rig installation using four M8 x 12 socket head cap screws. Depending on your cockpit and pedal plate, you may also use profile hardware (T-nuts) to match your mounting surface.
Mounting goals (more important than bolt counts)
- No lift: the pedal base should not tilt up under heavy braking.
- No lateral shift: the base should not slide left/right when you modulate brake pressure.
- Stable heel support: your heel position should be repeatable.

Step 2: set your seating geometry before you tune elastomers

- Set pedal angle so your ankle can modulate without strain.
- Then lock everything down.

Most sims allow you to tune brake response (linearity or “brake gamma”). Use that for fine feel changes, not to compensate for a moving pedal base.
Brake feel: a practical tuning approach
Instead of endlessly swapping elastomers, use a method:
- Pick one car you drive often (GT3 is a great baseline).
- Drive 10 laps and watch: do you lock up early, or do you never reach max pressure?
- If you lock too easily, increase resistance or reduce in-game brake pressure sensitivity.
- If you never reach threshold braking, reduce resistance or raise your max pressure target.
