Active pedals are one of the biggest changes happening in sim racing hardware. Instead of one fixed pedal feel, an active pedal can simulate different brake and throttle characteristics, adjust force curves, and give you a very repeatable reference—when it’s set up correctly.

Who should (and shouldn’t) buy an active pedal

An active pedal makes the most sense if:

  • You drive multiple car types and want different pedal feels without rebuilding hardware.

  • You already have (or plan) a stable cockpit that won’t move under heavy braking.

It’s usually not the first upgrade for a beginner. Most beginners get more value from a good load cell set (like MOZA CRP2) and a stable rig first.

With stronger braking forces, your seating position matters more:

  • Your seat should support your thighs so you can brake without lifting your hips.
  • Your knee should be slightly bent at full brake—no locked legs.
  • Your pelvis should stay stable; if you slide, your braking will never be consistent.
