Automobilista 2 graphics settings for triples and VR: clarity, mirrors and smooth FPS

Automobilista 2 graphics settings for triples and VR: clarity, mirrors and smooth FPS

In sim racing, “pretty” is not the goal — clarity is. You need to see braking boards, kerb edges, apexes and the car’s rotation. The best graphics settings are the ones that keep your frametime stable while preserving those cues.

This guide gives you a clean baseline for triple monitors and VR in Automobilista 2, plus a quick way to decide which settings to lower first.

Step 0: make sure your visuals are physically stable

Triples only help if the monitors don’t move. If your screens shake when you hit kerbs, your brain loses the horizon reference. A stable solution is Apex freestanding triple monitor stand or an integrated approach like Core integrated triple monitor stand.

Baseline settings for AMS2 (triples)

Setting Recommended starting point Why
Resolution / Render scale Native resolution, 100% scale Start simple; scaling is a blunt tool. Adjust only if needed.
Anti-aliasing MSAA medium/high (if FPS allows) Triples show jaggies; AA improves clarity.
Shadows Medium High shadows are expensive and rarely worth it in racing.
Track / Car detail High Improves visual cues (braking points, kerb edges).
Reflections Low/medium Expensive in wet conditions; keep reasonable.
Mirrors Lower mirror quality before lowering main quality Mirrors are one of the biggest performance hits.
Motion blur Off In racing it reduces clarity of visual reference points.

The “mirror first” performance rule

When FPS drops, people usually lower everything. In sims, you get more performance per click by lowering these first:

  1. Mirror quality and distance
  2. Reflections (especially in wet)
  3. Shadows

Only after that should you lower track detail. Track detail affects your ability to pick consistent references.

VR: comfort and clarity checklist

  • Keep your framerate locked (or locked to a stable reprojection target). Spiky performance causes nausea faster than “lower graphics”.
  • Reduce shimmering with AA and sensible sharpening rather than extreme render scale.
  • Remove motion blur and heavy post-processing; they can make head movement feel weird.

How your rig affects your visuals (yes, really)

When you push harder in AMS2 you hit kerbs harder. That’s when weak rigs and stands show their weakness.

Recommended SIMGASM gear for this guide

If you are unsure what fits your hardware, SIMGASM support can help you match mounts, bolt patterns and upgrade paths before you buy.

Quick optimisation routine (10 minutes)

  1. Pick one heavy scenario: rain, night, busy grid.
  2. Run a 2-lap test and note the worst FPS moments.
  3. Lower mirrors and reflections first, retest.
  4. Only then reduce shadows, and finally overall detail.
