The best seat for a motion rig is a fixed back bucket seat that is light, stiff and bolted rigidly to the frame. A motion system moves the whole rig, so every gram of seat weight and every bit of play in the mounting changes what you feel. A reclining seat works too, but its hinge adds small movements that blur the motion cues. Pick a seat that fits your body well and keeps you in one place, because on a moving rig you feel every slide.
Below you learn why the seat matters so much on motion, what to check before you buy and which SIMGASM seats fit a motion build in 2026.
Why does the seat matter so much on a motion rig?
On a static rig the seat only holds you, but on a motion rig it also passes every movement to your body.
The seat is the link between motion and your body
Motion actuators lift, tilt and drop the frame. You feel those movements through the seat, much more than through the wheel or pedals. If the seat flexes or rocks, part of each movement is lost or arrives late. A rigid seat on solid brackets gives sharp, clean cues.
Weight counts against your payload
Every actuator system has a maximum load. The MOZA HMA150 that SIMGASM sells has a maximum platform payload of 350 kg. That number includes you, the seat, the wheelbase, the pedals, the monitor mounts and the frame. A lighter seat leaves more room for the rest and lets the actuators react faster.
What should you look for in a motion seat?
Four points decide whether a seat works well on a moving rig.
A fixed back
A fixed back seat has no hinge, so it moves exactly with the frame. A recline mechanism always has a little play, and on motion you feel it as a small delay or knock. Fixed back seats like the Atlas range and the Core Bucket avoid this.

A snug fit
On a static rig, a little space around your hips feels fine. On motion, you slide into that space with every roll, and the effect feels sloppy. Choose a seat with good side support. Read our comparison of Sparco and SIMGASM seats to see how different shells hold you.
Rigid mounting
Side mounted bucket seats need strong brackets. A slider must lock on both rails. The SIMGASM dual locking seat slider set has reinforced rails and four welded mounting nuts, so the bolts stay aligned while you tighten them. Check all seat bolts again after the first few motion sessions.
Room for haptics and belts
Many motion builds also add a bass shaker or a belt tensioner. The Atlas shell has a predefined bass shaker mounting pattern, which keeps the install clean. For belts, check the harness path before you buy.
GT or formula position on motion?
Your seating position changes how motion feels, so match it to the cars you drive.
Upright GT position
In an upright seat, pitch under braking and acceleration is very clear, because your upper body sits higher above the pivot point. It suits GT, touring and endurance racing.

Low formula position
In a low, reclined seat you sit closer to the frame, which gives a tight and direct feel. Founder Johan Akkerman races at home on a SIMGASM Sport cockpit with the Formula Atlas seat, VR and motion. He particularly enjoys Formula 1 cars from the 1960s and 1970s, and that setup is the result of years of testing. The patented Atlas lets you switch between GT and Formula upper sections on the same base, so one seat covers both. Our guide on FIA approved seats explains why fit beats a label.
Which rig and brackets does a motion seat need?
A good seat only works when the frame and actuator mounts are just as stiff.
A profile frame made for actuators
The HMA150 uses four actuators with 150 mm travel, up to 300 mm/s speed and a heave of plus or minus 75 mm. It is compatible with the complete SIMGASM range, the C40, C80, C120 and C160, which you find in the racing simulator cockpit collection. For the actuator mounts, SIMGASM designed the universal motion actuator bracket set from 6 mm carbon steel with four bolted mounting points per bracket.
Every part tested together
SIMGASM tests every product as part of a complete simulator, not as a loose part. That matters most on motion, where seat, frame and actuators work as one system. Browse every formula sim racing seat and GT seat in our range, or see all motion hardware.

Questions about seats on motion rigs
Here are short answers to what drivers ask most before they add motion.
Can you use a reclining seat on a motion rig?
Yes, but a fixed back seat gives cleaner cues, because it has no hinge with play.
How heavy can a seat be for motion?
Add up your own weight, the seat and all hardware, and stay well below the payload of your system. For the HMA150 the stated maximum is 350 kg.
Do you need special brackets for motion?
Use solid seat brackets and a dedicated actuator bracket set. On SIMGASM rigs, the universal motion actuator bracket set fits the Hobby, Club, Sport and Pro.
Is the Atlas seat good for motion?
Yes. It is a fixed back, side mounted seat with a bass shaker pattern, and its founder races it on motion himself.
