Assetto Corsa Competizione setup work can feel intimidating because the menus are full of sliders. The good news: you can get 90% of the performance by focusing on a small set of fundamentals and ignoring the rest until you’re consistent.
This guide teaches the “high-impact basics”: tyres, brakes, electronics, and a simple workflow that keeps you from getting lost in the garage.
The rule that makes setups easy
Do not change multiple things at once. Setups are a feedback loop. If you change three sliders and the car feels better, you won’t know why — and you can’t replicate it on another track.
Step 1: pick the right baseline preset
- Start with a stable preset for learning: something that gives you predictable behaviour.
- Once you can do consistent laps, test a more aggressive baseline.
- Use the same car/track combo for comparisons.
Step 2: tyre pressures (the #1 performance lever)
In ACC, tyres are happiest in a fairly narrow hot pressure window. The exact number can vary by conditions and updates, but the principle is always the same:
- If hot pressures are too low, the car feels vague and slides early.
- If hot pressures are too high, grip drops and the car feels nervous.
Workflow: do 3–4 laps, look at hot pressures, then adjust cold pressures so your tyres land in the target window after they warm up.
Step 3: brake ducts and temperature control
Brake ducts are your “temperature manager”.
- Close ducts if brakes run too cold (more bite early, but risk overheating in traffic).
- Open ducts if brakes overheat (more consistency over a stint, especially in endurance).
Brakes that are too hot can create long-pedal feel and inconsistent stopping distances.
Step 4: TC and ABS (use them like tools, not crutches)
- Traction Control (TC): higher values reduce wheelspin but can kill rotation on exit.
- ABS: higher values reduce lockups but can extend braking if too intrusive.
Adjust these based on the corner type:
- Spinning on exit? Increase TC slightly.
- Understeer on exit? Decrease TC slightly and be smoother with throttle.
- Locking under hard braking? Increase ABS or reduce brake bias/peak force.
Step 5: brake bias (the easiest way to balance entry)
Brake bias changes how the car rotates on entry.
- More front bias: safer, more understeer.
- More rear bias: more rotation, but higher spin risk.
Small changes (0.2–0.5) can make a big difference.
Hardware note: setups only work if your inputs are repeatable
If your braking is inconsistent because your seating position changes or your pedal deck moves, you’ll chase setups that don’t exist.
