You picked your chassis. Then a second choice appears at checkout, and it is the one most drivers underestimate. Bottom mount, front mount, side mount or Asetek front mount. Pick the wrong one and your wheel base simply will not bolt on.
This choice is not about taste. It follows the bolt pattern your manufacturer machined into the housing. Understand the four options and the decision takes a minute.
What does a wheel mount actually do?
A wheel mount is the bracket that transfers motor torque into the frame. Every newton metre your base produces pushes against that interface first. So the mount decides two things: whether your hardware fits, and how much of the feedback survives the trip to your hands.
A good mount spreads load across several bolts and sits tight against a rigid beam. A poor one relies on two fasteners and a thin plate. You feel the difference immediately in fast direction changes.

Bottom mount: the broadest option
Bottom mount uses the threaded holes on the underside of the wheel base. The base sits on a flat deck and bolts downward. It is the most common pattern in sim racing, and it is the option SIMGASM supplies by default across the whole range.
Coverage is wide. Bottom mount covers supported underside patterns from Logitech, Fanatec, MOZA, Thrustmaster, SIMAGIC, PXN, Simucube, Asetek, VRS and Conspit. If you own an entry or mid range base, this is almost always your answer.
It also gives you flexibility. A deck lets you slide the base forward and back, which changes your reach without touching the seat. That matters more than people expect when several drivers share one rig.
Front mount: for high torque housings
Front mount bolts the base through its front face into a vertical plate. Torque then loads the plate in shear instead of trying to peel the base off a deck. For very strong bases that is a cleaner load path.
Coverage is narrower and very specific. The regular front mount covers supported Fanatec, Simucube and VRS front patterns. It does not fit any SIMAGIC wheel base, so check your model before you choose it.

Side mount: when height and angle come first
Side mount grips the base between two brackets that clamp its sides. The main benefit is geometry. You gain freedom in height and angle, which helps drivers who switch between a GT position and a formula position.

Asetek front mount: a dedicated bracket
Asetek uses its own front pattern, so it gets its own bracket. The Asetek front mount is dedicated to supported Asetek models and covers La Prima, Forte and Invicta. How the mount changes your driving position
Mount choice moves your wheel in space, and your wheel position sets your whole posture. A bottom mount deck usually places the wheel slightly higher. A side mount lets you drop it or raise it with more freedom.
Aim for a slight bend in your elbows with your hands at nine and three. Shoulders stay low. Wrists stay neutral. Get that right and long races stop hurting. Get it wrong and you tense up within twenty minutes, no matter how good the hardware is.

Practical checks before you order
Start with your exact model name, including the revision. A MOZA R9 V3 and an older R9 are not automatically identical. Fanatec, Simucube and Asetek all run several generations with different housings.
Then open the live compatibility selector on the product page. It lists supported models per variant, which is far more reliable than a brand logo. Which mount should most drivers pick?
If you are unsure, bottom mount is the safe default. It supports the widest list of brands, it adjusts easily, and it suits every tier from the compact entry frame to the flagship. Front and side mounts are the specialist answers for specific housings and specific geometry goals.

Can I change the wheel mount later?
Yes. The brackets are separate parts that bolt into the T slot profiles, so you can swap them if you change your wheel base. You do not need a new chassis.
Does front mount feel stiffer than bottom mount?
On a rigid frame the difference is small. Front mount has a theoretical advantage at very high torque because the load path is shorter, but a well supported bottom deck performs extremely well in practice.
Why does front mount not fit SIMAGIC bases?
SIMAGIC uses a different front housing pattern. For those bases, choose bottom mount or side mount, both of which cover supported SIMAGIC models.
Do I need adapters for a quick release or wheel?
No, not from the cockpit side. The wheel mount attaches the base to the frame only. Quick release systems and steering wheels are separate and follow your wheel base ecosystem.
