Gold, green, purple, silver, or a full racing livery. The colour question feels purely cosmetic until you live with the frame for a year. Then finish quality, cleaning and how the rig sits in your room all start to matter.

Rigidity stays identical across finishes. The aluminium underneath performs the same job whatever colour sits on top. What changes is durability of the coating, how visible dust becomes and how well the frame flatters your hardware.

Does colour affect strength or stiffness?

No. A coloured frame uses the same profile section, the same brackets and the same steel components as the black one. A SIMGASM Sport in green carries a 40 x 120 mm main profile and a rated braking load of 300 kg at the pedal deck, exactly like the black version.

Coating thickness stays measured in microns, which sits far below anything that influences bending stiffness. So pick the colour you actually want rather than the one you assume performs better.

What does change slightly is scratch visibility. Deep colours show fine marks more readily under bright light, while lighter finishes hide them. Both hold up equally well against normal use.

How does colour change the way your setup looks?

A frame either disappears or leads. Black keeps the chassis visually quiet and lets the wheelbase, the seat and the screens define the cockpit. That helps enormously when your hardware comes from several brands with different finishes.

A bold colour flips the relationship. Gold, green or a finish such as Sport Purple turns the frame into the focal point, and your hardware becomes the supporting cast. That suits a themed room or a build around a favourite team.

Silver sits between the two. It reads as raw engineering and pairs well with both dark and light hardware. Many racers pick it when the room itself already carries strong colour.

What do owners actually notice?

Feedback repeats a few themes. Racers mention that a colour looks even better in person than on the product page, that a finish such as Hobby White stays surprisingly easy to clean, and that a smooth paint finish resists scratching during assembly and readjustment.

One owner compared it directly with a previous rig and reported no scratches at all after a full week of building and adjusting. Finish quality shows up in exactly those moments.

What is a livery and how does it differ from a colour?

A colour edition coats the whole frame in one tone. A livery applies a motorsport inspired graphic scheme across the profiles, so the rig reads as a specific racing identity rather than a single shade.

SIMGASM offers three liveries across the range: JPS, RothBros and MARINI. Each pairs with the Hobby, Club, Sport and Pro tiers, so the visual choice stays independent of the structural one.

Personalisation goes further still. Racers add a name, a logo and a race number, which is how a shared aluminium platform ends up feeling like a personal car.

Who does the colour work?

Personalisation at SIMGASM runs through Michal Nevrela, who brings more than fifteen years of professional print experience. He translates artwork, colours, race numbers and full racing liveries into physical products.

His work includes the personalised simulator built for Romain Monti, the first SIMGASM ambassador. That rig turned a real race car livery into a one off cockpit, and it was presented during SRO SpeedWeek at Spa Francorchamps.

Johan Akkerman, founder and product designer, defines the structure behind those finishes. He has been active in sim racing since 2008, with a background in esports, Project CARS championships, product development at Trak Racer and real motorsport. The team behind those finishes appears in full on the SIMGASM about us page.

Does a coloured frame limit your choices later?

Only in matching. Every colour edition carries its own product page and behaves as a true edition, so the structure, the mounts and the accessory compatibility stay identical across the range.

Accessories arrive in their own finishes though. Monitor stands, seat brackets and wheel mounts come mainly in black, so a bold frame often ends up as a two tone build. Many racers like that contrast, and some prefer to wait for a matching part.

Practical planning helps. Decide early whether you want a unified look or a deliberate contrast, then choose the seat and the monitor stand with that decision in mind. Our article on what a sim racing rig includes lists which parts you still choose separately.

How do you choose with confidence?

Pick the tier first, then the finish. Structure decides how the rig drives, and our guide to aluminium profile sizes covers that side of the decision.

After that, view the finishes side by side. The custom colour sim racing rig collection shows every colour and livery across all four tiers, so you compare the exact combination you plan to order.

Q&A

We answer a few questions that come up often:

Does a coloured rig cost more than a black one?

Pricing varies per finish and per tier, and each colour carries its own product page. Structure and specification stay the same across the finishes within a tier.

Do the colours match the photos?

Closely, though screens vary. Some owners report a colour looking slightly darker or better in person, so check several product images before deciding.

Is the finish durable?

Yes. Owners regularly comment on a smooth paint finish that resists scratching during assembly and repeated adjustment.

How do I clean a coloured frame?

A soft damp cloth handles dust and fingerprints. Avoid abrasive cleaners, since they dull the coating over time.

Can I add my name and race number?

Yes. Personalisation covers artwork, colours, race numbers and complete liveries, applied by an in house print specialist.

Can I change the colour later?

Repainting an assembled frame rarely gives a factory result. Choosing the finish at purchase remains the cleaner route.
