If you’re building an Asetek setup, the wheelbase often gets all the attention. But in lap time and consistency, pedals matter more. A stable braking technique is usually worth more than another 5–10 Nm of steering.

On SIMGASM you’ll find both Asetek La Prima pedals and Asetek Forte S-Series pedals. They target different buyers, but both can be excellent if you mount them on a rigid cockpit and set them up properly.

The important point: pedal “feel” is not only the pedal. It’s your whole chain: seat position → brace point → heel support → pedal mount stiffness → brake elastomer/hydraulic feel.

The #1 mistake: tuning pedals before you fix your seating and heel support

If your heels slide, your chair moves, or the pedal deck flexes, you’ll feel inconsistent even with expensive pedals. Before you adjust elastomers or software curves, do this:

  1. Lock in the seat so your hips don’t rock under braking.
  2. Add heel support so your foot can pivot smoothly.
  3. Make the pedal mount rigid so force goes into the brake, not the cockpit.

How to set pedal spacing and angle (a practical starting point)

Don’t overcomplicate this. Use these “good enough” baselines, then micro-adjust:

  • Heel-to-pedal distance: enough that you can fully press the brake without locking your knee.
  • Pedal height: try to keep throttle and brake close enough to reduce ankle strain.
  • Spacing: start with a comfortable width; narrow if you heel-toe, wider if you drive mostly GT with left-foot braking.

If you want a comfortable, adjustable seating position (especially for longer sessions), pair the pedals with the Core Recline seat. If you prefer a fixed race posture, go with Atlas GT seat for GT-style seating or Atlas Formula seat for a more laid-back formula/hypercar position.

Load cell braking: what you should actually aim for

Most beginners try to brake with travel. Most fast drivers brake with pressure. That’s the whole point of a load cell: your brain can repeat pressure more reliably than travel.

  • Shorter travel can feel precise, but may be tiring if your posture is wrong.
  • Longer travel can be forgiving, but may reduce the “snap” in trail braking.

A good target is: “I can hit 80–90% brake quickly, and then bleed off smoothly without shaking my leg.” If you can’t do that yet, adjust your seating position before you buy upgrades.
