iRacing has one of the best features for direct drive users: Auto force feedback. If you use it correctly, you can switch cars without spending 30 minutes re-tuning—and you can keep clipping under control without turning the wheel numb.

This guide is MOZA-focused (R3/R5/R9/R12/R21), but the workflow works for any direct drive base. We’ll also cover the cockpit basics that make your settings feel consistent.

Why iRacing Auto FFB is worth using

Every car in iRacing produces different steering forces. A GT3 can feel totally different to an open wheeler or a rallycross car. Auto FFB analyzes your recent laps and sets an FFB strength value that should reduce clipping for that car/track combination.

It’s not magic—and it’s not “the fastest setting”—but it’s one of the best baselines you can build from.

The correct workflow (most people skip step 2)

  1. Start with a reasonable MOZA Pit House overall strength (comfort level, not maximum).
  2. Drive a few clean laps (no wall taps, no aggressive kerb smashing).
  3. Use the iRacing Auto function in the FFB black box to set strength.
  4. Only then tweak feel using small changes (not huge gain swings).

Baseline iRacing settings for MOZA direct drive

These are “sane defaults” that work for many direct drive users:

  • Wheel force: use Auto where available, or set it to match your wheelbase capability.
  • Damping / smoothing: keep low for direct drive; add only if you have harshness.
  • Minimum force: usually 0% for direct drive (it’s for gear/belt wheels).

Then let Auto FFB handle per-car strength.

MOZA-specific tip: keep software and game rotation in sync

For consistent car control, your steering ratio must make sense. If you set 540° in software, the in-game lock may not automatically change—so your steering becomes “too fast.”

Why your cockpit matters for iRacing consistency

In iRacing, consistency is everything. If your cockpit flexes, your inputs change lap to lap—even if you don’t notice it. That’s why adjustable aluminium profile rigs are so effective: you can dial your ergonomics and keep it locked down.

Common iRacing problems and quick fixes

  • Wheel feels dead: you’re likely clipping or over-damping. Start here: clipping workflow.

  • Braking inconsistency: your seat/pedals are moving. Add a solid foot reference like the heel plate and check seat rigidity.
