The PXN V12 is a popular choice among sim racers looking for direct drive feel at an accessible price point. But buying a wheelbase is only half the decision. The cockpit underneath it determines how much of that hardware's potential you actually experience at the wheel.
This collection focuses on pairing the PXN V12 with a SIMGASM cockpit that keeps up with it. Not just in terms of bolt holes, but in terms of rigidity, adjustability and the long-term upgrade path you will want as your setup evolves.
This is the question most new sim racers do not ask until they have already spent money learning the answer. A direct drive wheelbase generates steering forces that pass directly into the rig frame every time you turn the wheel. If that frame flexes, even slightly, it can absorb part of the signal before it reaches your hands. The result may be a wheel that feels softer and less detailed than it should, and FFB tuning alone may not fully compensate for energy being lost in the structure.
The same principle applies to pedals. Load cell braking works by reading the force you apply through your foot. If the pedal plate moves or the frame shifts under hard braking, your foot is working against a less stable reference point. Lap time consistency can suffer as a result.
Getting the cockpit right early means every other tuning decision you make is built on a more stable foundation.
SIMGASM cockpits are available in different profile sizes that correspond to different rigidity levels and use cases. Understanding what each tier offers helps you make the right call the first time rather than upgrading later.
The Club is a strong all-round starting point that handles the PXN V12 comfortably for most driving styles. If you are coming from a wheel stand or a lighter frame and want a meaningful step up in stability, Club delivers that without overbuilding for your current hardware.
The Sport makes sense if you are running the PXN V12 at higher force settings, doing a lot of load cell braking or planning to expand your setup later. The additional profile size adds stiffness at the connection points that matter most, particularly at the wheelbase mount and the pedal plate.
The Pro is the choice for maximum stiffness and the broadest adjustment range. If you are planning a long-term build that may include future hardware upgrades or a more demanding setup, Pro gives you the headroom to do that without rebuilding the frame from scratch.
Not sure which tier fits where you are right now? The SIMGASM simulator tiers guide walks through each platform in detail with practical examples of what each one is built for.
Mounting method has a direct effect on how stiff the connection between wheelbase and frame feels under load.
The front wheel mount attaches the wheelbase to the front face of the rig. Steering forces travel straight back into the frame structure, which is generally considered the stiffer load path. For direct drive hardware this tends to be the preferred configuration because it can preserve more FFB detail and reduce unwanted movement at the base under quick direction changes.
The bottom wheel mount positions the wheelbase from below and offers more height and angle adjustability. It is a good option if your seating position requires a specific wheelbase height that front mounting cannot achieve, or if your frame geometry makes front mounting less practical. Many drivers use bottom mounting successfully and prefer the ergonomic flexibility it provides.
The practical advice is to decide on your seating position and ergonomics first, then choose the mount that delivers the stiffest connection within those constraints.
If you are pairing the PXN V12 with load cell pedals, the pedal plate setup deserves as much attention as the wheelbase mount. Load cell braking is sensitive to position consistency. That means the pedal benefits from being in the same position every session, staying stable under the force you apply at peak braking.
A few things tend to make a meaningful difference here. Make sure the pedal plate is securely fixed to the frame. Set your seat position before you finalise pedal angles, since your ankle geometry under braking load changes with seat rake and distance. And make sure you can brace comfortably against the seat and frame while braking, as an unstable braking position can show up in lap time variation.
Read the cockpit rigidity and flex guide for more on how frame stiffness relates to pedal feel.
FOV and monitor position are often treated as a one-time setup task but they are an ongoing consistency factor. A solid monitor stand paired with your cockpit helps keep your eyepoint in the same place session after session, which removes one variable from the equation when you are trying to understand why a session feels different from the last.
Most sim racers start with a wheel and pedals and expand from there. Adding a shifter and handbrake mount while building the initial rig is cleaner than retrofitting later. Even if you do not use it immediately, having the mount in place means the option is there when you want it.
