Logitech G25 / G27 is a popular choice, but "compatible" should mean more than just bolt holes. Compatibility is not only about bolt holes. The right seating position, pedal height and wheel distance make your hardware easier to drive fast. This collection helps you match Logitech G25 / G27 to a SIMGASM cockpit, with practical mounting suggestions and a clean upgrade path.

A note on legacy hardware

The G25 and G27 occupy an unusual place in sim racing. Both are products that Logitech discontinued years ago — the G25 was succeeded by the G27, and the G27 was eventually replaced by the G29/G920 line. Yet a remarkable number of these wheels are still in active use, traded on second-hand markets, and built into respectable rigs by sim racers who appreciate what they do well. If you're reading this page, there's a good chance you've inherited one, found a deal on a used unit, or been running yours faithfully for a decade. The cockpit conversation for these wheels is a little different from anything currently on shelves, and it's worth thinking through honestly.

What's actually in the box

Both the G25 and G27 use gear-driven force feedback — the same fundamental mechanism that carried through to the G29/G920/G923, though with some refinements across generations. They came bundled with a three-pedal set (including a clutch, which was a meaningful feature at their release) and a six-speed H-pattern shifter with reverse. That shifter, by the way, is one reason these wheels held value for so long: it remains usable for sim racers running rally games, classic content, or any title where an H-pattern feels right. Specifications, driver support and platform compatibility have shifted over the years, so check Logitech's current documentation if you're verifying support for a modern operating system or specific game.

Cockpit thinking starts with how you use the wheel

Rather than working through tiers as a hierarchy, it makes more sense to think about what you're actually trying to achieve. A G25 or G27 produces gear-driven force feedback at modest peak torque by modern standards. That means cockpit rigidity isn't a limiting factor — even an entry tier frame is more than rigid enough. What matters more is whether the cockpit gets the wheel, pedals and seat into the right relationship with each other.

The cockpit options

  • Club (80Ă—40) – a great all-round base for most wheelbases. The right starting point for a G25 or G27 unless you're planning a wheelbase upgrade.
  • Sport (120Ă—40) – extra headroom for stronger direct drive and heavy braking. Worth it only if a modern wheelbase is in your near future.
  • Pro (160Ă—40) – maximum stiffness and adjustment for high-torque and motion-ready builds. Considerably more rig than these wheels can use.

Why Club is the natural pairing

The G25 and G27 don't produce forces that challenge cockpit rigidity. What they need is a stable, properly proportioned platform that places the wheel, pedals and seat in the right positions relative to each other. The Club tier delivers exactly that without overspending on stiffness the wheelbase will never call on. The money saved compared to stepping up tiers is usually better directed at the rest of the build — a proper seat, a load cell brake modification, or simply held in reserve for the eventual wheelbase upgrade.

The argument for stepping up

One scenario reverses the recommendation: planning a wheelbase upgrade in the near future. If you're using a G25 or G27 as a bridge while saving for direct drive, building on a Sport tier rig means you buy the cockpit once. The legacy wheel will feel rock-solid on a Sport tier in the meantime, and the frame is ready when the upgrade arrives. Whether that planning logic applies depends on your timeline and budget — there's nothing wrong with buying Club now and upgrading the frame later if it turns out to be necessary, especially given how long these Logitech wheels can keep going.

The honest truth about gear-driven feedback

Worth saying clearly: the force feedback character of the G25 and G27 reflects technology that was current when these wheels launched, and the gear mechanism has limitations that modern belt-driven and direct drive wheelbases improve on. You'll feel notchiness during slow steering inputs, a slight delay in response that newer wheels don't have, and reduced detail compared to anything direct drive. None of this prevents the wheels from being enjoyable to drive — sim racers won championships on these things back in the day — but if you've never tried a modern wheelbase, the comparison can be eye-opening. Cockpit choice doesn't fix this; it's just how the wheel is.

Bolting down: front or bottom mount

Two mounting paths suit the G25 and G27:

  • Front wheel mount – the wheelbase sits at the front of the cockpit. A clean fit that brings the steering column to a natural angle.
  • Bottom wheel mount – the unit hangs below the deck, freeing up the top surface. More knee room and a tidier appearance.

Both the G25 and G27 have threaded holes on their undersides specifically intended for proper cockpit mounting — a feature Logitech included from the start of these designs, which makes the transition from desk clamp to cockpit straightforward. Refer to Logitech's documentation for the correct bolt sizes. A stiffer mount preserves detail and reduces unwanted vibration.

The shifter that came in the box

The G25 and G27 each include a six-speed H-pattern shifter with reverse, attached via a dedicated cable that plugs into the wheelbase rather than the PC directly. This shifter mounts cleanly to a profile-rail cockpit using a shifter and handbrake mount, positioned where your hand naturally falls. For rally titles, classic GT racing, and anything where rowing through gears manually adds to the experience, this is one of the wheel's enduring strengths. Many sim racers who've moved on to direct drive wheelbases still keep their old Logitech shifter in use, simply because it works.

Pedals: what to do with them

The three-pedal set that comes with these wheels — clutch, brake, accelerator — was generous for its era but uses potentiometer-based sensing throughout. The brake in particular suffers from the same issue as the later G29/G920 pedals: it measures position rather than pressure, which makes consistent threshold braking harder to learn. Several options here:

  • Run them as-is. Plenty of sim racers do, and they're perfectly adequate for casual driving.
  • DIY load cell modifications exist for the G25/G27 brake — there's a long community history of these mods given how widespread the wheels were.
  • Replace the pedal set entirely with third-party load cell or hydraulic pedals. These mount cleanly to profile-rail cockpits with appropriate brackets.

Whichever route you take, load cell braking demands a stable pedal position and a seat that lets you brace comfortably. The Club tier handles the forces from any pedal upgrade you're likely to make on this wheelbase.

The ergonomics argument

The intro on this page makes a specific point — that compatibility is more about seating position, pedal height and wheel distance than bolt patterns. That's especially true with legacy wheels like the G25 and G27, because their force feedback isn't producing the kind of detailed information that demands a perfect cockpit. What they need is to be set up in a position where your body works naturally: hands at a consistent height on the wheel, feet at a sensible reach to the pedals, back supported when you brake. Get the ergonomics right and these wheels punch above their weight. Get them wrong and even a flagship wheelbase wouldn't help. Our ergonomics guide is worth reading carefully.

Cables and connections

Both wheels use a power adapter and connect to the PC via USB. There's also the shifter cable that runs from the shifter to the wheelbase. Profile channels accept these cables cleanly, and service loops at each connector prevent strain when you adjust the seat. Our cable management guide covers the setup. One thing worth knowing with older hardware: connectors do eventually wear, so routing cables in a way that doesn't pull on the plugs extends the useful life of the equipment.

FOV and screen setup

Pair your cockpit with a solid monitor stand so FOV stays repeatable. These wheels don't transmit significant vibration into the rig — gear drive at moderate forces stays well within what a standard monitor stand can handle — but consistent eyepoint matters for consistent driving regardless of wheelbase technology.

Building out the rest of the rig

The G25 and G27 originally shipped with their own shifter, but you can still add a handbrake using a shifter and handbrake mount. Handbrakes weren't included in the original Logitech bundles, but third-party USB handbrakes pair with these wheels through software, and they transform the rally and drift experience. The cockpit's profile rails accept any standard handbrake bracket.

Things sim racers ask about these wheels

Are the G25 and G27 still worth using in 2026? Honestly — yes, for the right user. If you already own one or can pick one up cheaply, they're perfectly capable of teaching you sim racing and supporting hundreds of hours of enjoyable driving. If you're choosing what to buy new, there are better options available, including newer Logitech wheels and entry direct drive units.

Is driver support still solid? Logitech has historically maintained driver support for these wheels through their software ecosystem, though the specifics around Windows compatibility and current driver versions are worth verifying directly with Logitech's documentation, particularly if you're on a recent operating system.

What's the typical lifespan? Many G25 and G27 wheels have been in use for over a decade. The most common failures are around pedal potentiometers (which can be cleaned or replaced) and the optical encoder on the wheel (which can develop issues over years of heavy use). Most failures are user-repairable with patience and basic tools.

Should I save up for a direct drive wheel instead? Possibly — depending on your budget, how seriously you drive, and how much your current wheel limits you. But a proper cockpit transforms whatever wheel you have, and the frame transfers to any future upgrade. There's no wrong order for that decision.

Can I keep my G25/G27 shifter when I upgrade the wheel? Sometimes. The shifter cable plugs into the wheelbase itself, so once the wheelbase is gone, the shifter typically goes with it. Some sim racers find ways to repurpose the shifter via USB adapter solutions, but compatibility varies.
