Boxes arrive. Heavy ones. And the first thought is usually the same: how much of my weekend is this going to eat? It is a reasonable worry, because profile rigs look complicated in photos.
The honest answer is that most drivers finish in one calm afternoon. Some do it faster. The build itself is not difficult, but a few steps reward patience, and rushing those is what turns two hours into five.
What actually arrives in the box?
Knowing the contents removes half the anxiety. A SIMGASM cockpit ships with the aluminium profiles, the structural chassis brackets, the wheel mount you selected at checkout, the assembly hardware and tools, a set of white gloves and the assembly guide.
Sport and Pro also include a heel rest, rubber feet and the Apex side profile arm for a shifter or handbrake. Hobby includes the Core side profile arm. The seat, seat slider, wheel base, pedals, monitor stand and display arrive separately, because those are your choices rather than ours.
Packaging tells you the scale. Hobby ships in one box measuring 960 x 220 x 120 mm and weighs about 20.5 kg. Sport and Pro each arrive in two boxes, with the long profile box around 1050 mm and the bracket box around 615 mm.

How much time should you set aside?
Plan two to three hours for a compact frame and three to four for a deeper chassis with more brackets. Add an hour if you are mounting hardware and routing cables on the same day.
One customer reported building the Hobby in about two hours while following the manual. That is a realistic benchmark for someone with no profile experience and ordinary tools.
Which steps slow people down?
Three things, consistently. The first is squaring the base frame. T slot profiles slide, which is their strength and their trap. If you tighten the base before it is square, every later bracket fights you.
Work on a flat floor. Loosely assemble the base rails, check the diagonals, then tighten in stages. Diagonal measurements should match. That single check saves more time than any other habit.
The second is bolt torque. Snug and even beats maximum force. Over tightening distorts thin brackets and can strip the T nut thread in the slot. Our guide on bolts and T nuts in an aluminium rig explains the hardware in detail.

The third is sequence. Fit the wheel mount and pedal deck before the seat, because both need access from angles the seat blocks. Then drop in the seat, then the screen.
Do you need special tools?
No. SIMGASM includes the tools and bolts you need, plus white gloves that keep fingerprints off a fresh powder coated finish. A rubber mallet helps when you seat the end caps, and a tape measure earns its place during the squaring step.
A second pair of hands is useful when you lift the seat into position, especially on the heavier tiers. The Sport chassis weighs about 39 kg and the Pro about 45 kg, so plan where the rig will live before you start.

Cable routing takes longer than you expect
This is the part people underestimate. Sport and Pro include integrated cable passthroughs, and Pro splits routing across three dedicated zones at the front, centre and rear. Using them properly means feeding cables before you close panels and add accessories.
Leave a small service loop at every connector so nothing pulls when you adjust the seat. Then bundle loosely. Tight bundles look neat, but they become a problem the first time you change hardware. Our article on cable management on profile rigs goes deeper into strain relief.
After the build: the setup session
Building the frame is step one. Setting your position is step two, and it deserves its own half hour. Pedal distance first, then seat angle, then wheel height and reach, then the screen.
Drive for twenty minutes, then adjust again. Almost nobody gets the position right on the first attempt, and small corrections at this stage pay off for years. If several people share the rig, a dual locking seat slider makes those changes quick.

Is a profile rig harder to build than a steel frame?
Slightly, and deliberately so. Steel frames bolt together in fixed positions, which makes assembly fast and adjustment limited. Profile frames let you place everything exactly where your body wants it, which costs a little more time up front.

Can one person build a cockpit alone?
Yes, for the frame itself. A helper is welcome when you lift the seat and the chassis into its final place, particularly on the heavier tiers.
Is there a manual and a video?

What happens if I need to move the rig later?
You do not have to dismantle it. A caster wheel set lets you roll the assembled chassis, which is much faster than taking the frame apart and rebuilding it.
Do I have to build it in one go?
No. Many drivers build the base and wheel deck one evening, then add the seat, screen and cables the next. The chassis stands safely between sessions.
